The Japanese Garden Society

The Society was formed in 1993 to promote, foster understanding and knowledge of, to record and encourage conservation of Japanese gardens in the UK.

The Society is for those who would like to visit Japan and understand more of what they can see, for those who have or planning to build a Japanese garden and for those involved in the Japanese garden business wishing to seek advice, contact those with an interest.

The Society offers an illustrated quarterly journal “Shakkei” containing articles about Japanese gardens, practical advice, information and guidance on building gardens; a sourcing book of contacts for supply of plants, ornaments, structures and materials, design and construction services; visits to Japan to see the Cherry blossom, Azaleas or Acers.

There are a number of regional groups who organise talks, workshops, garden visits and involvement in shows and exhibitions. The Society has won major medals at all the main RHS shows.
